As the National Organizer of World Robot Olympiad for the UK (United Kingdom), RoboBrain also offers many Robotics courses. We have developed many fantastic Raspberry Pi courses that are unique in that they are able to get children as young as 7 programming with what is a complex device. For children younger than 7 we have some great BBC Micro:bit courses that introduce robotics and programming to young children in an incredibly fun and engaging way.Â
We currently have four coding and computational thinking courses; Tiny Sovlers 6-7, Mini Coders 8-9, Junior Coders 10- 12 and Senior Coders 12+. Each course has a 6 level structure. Each level is 10 lessons. So at the normal pace of 1 lesson per week, it would take 10 weeks to complete 1 level. Each level builds upon concepts studied previously whilst introducing new and more complex ones.

RoboBrain takes customer support seriously. We provide multiple channels of communication for students and parents. We can provide homework answer sheets on request, many lessons often have recaps provided on our Learning Centre, so students can review what they have learnt in the previous lessons. Lesson Summary emails are also sent out after each lesson so that students and parents can keep track of topics being learnt. If there is anything your child is struggling with, they can always ask their teacher during lesson time as well!

Our students are challenged with creating many different projects as they progress through our courses. For example, during Mini Coders Level 2 (You can learn more about the Mini Coders course here) our students are faced with the project of building a mini dice game. For our Junior Coder students (You can learn more about the Junior Coders course here), they will learn how to create game with Pygame!

Junior Coders is for 10- to 12-year-old children and aims to turn young learners into advanced programmers. Whilst continuing to grow their problem-solving skills, they will focus more on the syntax of Python. By the end of this course, students will be able to program simple games and search engines. The first 3 levels of this course deep dives into the GCSE programming curriculum, making children ready for the A-Level Computer Science study.

Mini Coders for 8- to 10-year-old children is special as it combines block programming and Python. This is a course designed especially for this age group, to apply computational thinking to Python but not to overwhelm them with the complex of Python syntax. This course helps our learners to build confidence and solid foundation in programming in Python. Completion of this course covers all GCSE programming curriculum.

Senior Coders is for young learners, 12 years and older. Senior Coders is an ambitious Python course that fast tracks children through the knowledge matrix needed for this programming language. Once they have built up a certain amount of coding knowledge and experience, advanced coding skills such as Object Orientated Programming will be introduced. Projects are also designed to introduce children to do more Domain Specific Programming, starting from research and planning.

Generally there is no need for a child to do more than one Free Taster Lesson. If there is a need, such as, we feel your child should also try out one of our other courses, then we will offer a second taster lesson. Unless, such a situation arises, each child will receive one Free Taster Lesson.

There is no guarantee that your Free Taster Lesson teacher will go on to teach your child during their course. It is very much dependent on availability, both the student’s and the teacher’s.

Seesaw (https://web.seesaw.me/) is where our youngest students, Tiny Solvers for 6-8 year old children, do some activities during lesson time and do and sumbit their homework. It’s a great application for young children (available as an App on your tablet or phone too) as its very easy to use.

Yes! Completion of our Mini Coders course covers all of the UK GCSE programming curriculum. From there, the first 3 levels of our Junior Coders course takes students beyond that of the UK GCSE programming curriculum, making our students more than ready for their A-Level Computer Science study.

Once our learners have built up their knowledge repository and confidence in coding, it becomes a tool for them to apply to different areas. Some may decide to continue further in the subject of computing, becoming Expert Coders, to go into Data Science, Cyber Security etc.  Some children may want to put the skills learnt in other areas, for instance Finance, Biochemistry, Engineering or Arts.
